Dear Friends, A shipwrecked horseman. A Travancore king. A kingdom offered to God. Now told in music. We warmly invite you to the formal release of Horse of the Servant, a historical novel by RV Menon. It follows a Maratha cavalryman who is tortured in a Goan dungeon and shipwrecked on the Malabar coast, then rises to command the horse of Maharaja Marthanda Varma. He fights at the Battle of Colachel and finds a new name and a new home, in a kingdom that its king finally dedicates to Lord Padmanabha. After the release, the story comes alive in a Carnatic vocal concert, with each composition chosen to reflect the book's journey of captivity, devotion, battle, belonging and surrender.
